Anthony Davis had enough.
The Lakers star was not in the mood to dissect what happened on Jamal Murray’s game-winning buzzer-beater over the big man Monday night as the Nuggets erased a 20-point second-half deficit to win 101-99 and take a 2-0 lead in the first-round NBA playoff series.
Asked during a postgame press conference about what happened on the final play, Davis said tersely, “Jamal Murray made a shot,” dropped the microphone on the table and walked off.
It appeared that a member of the Lakers’ PR staff did say “last question” before the query.
Davis’ frustration came after the Lakers blew a large lead and a chance to grab a split in Denver from the defending NBA champions in their rematch of last year’s Western Conference finals.
After putting up 32 points on 14-for-19 shooting and 11 rebounds, Davis guarded Murray on the final play as Murray stepped back for the walk-off 15-footer.
Murray also tied the game at 99-99 with 30 seconds left on a 19-footer.
LeBron James missed an uncontested 3-pointer with about 15 seconds left and the Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. grabbed the rebound.
Denver opted not to call a timeout and Murray took the ball up for the eventual game-winner.
“We got the stop. Tie game. Why let them get set?” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said after the game. “Because, when they can get set and they switch out everything, you might not even get the ball inbounds. So, I wanted to make sure we could just flow into it and let our best players make plays.”
Murray, who had 20 points and five assists, fell down after the shot and Davis tripped on Murray’s leg, falling backward into the Nuggets’ bench.
The Lakers were up 68-48 with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter before collapsing.
James, who complained about the officiating after the loss, had 26 points on 9-for-19 shooting with 12 assists and eight rebounds.
Reigning NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic had a monster triple-double, finishing with 27 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists along with two steals.
