Eric Musselman has been doing the coaching thing for a while. From the CBA to the USBL to the D-League to the NBA to the NCAA, Musselman, now the head coach at USC, has toured the b-ball league acronyms.
And if you’re around any business long enough, you’ll create a network, a web of former colleagues and friends and like-minded workers.
Coincidentally, the Knicks’ new-look staff, assembled after months of roller-coaster searching, carries strong ties to Musselman. He went to the same college as Mike Brown, the University of San Diego, and then served as the Lakers’ D-League coach during Brown’s stint guiding Kobe and company.
Musselman gave Brendan O’Connor, the Knicks’ new defensive coordinator, his first coaching opportunity with the Florida Sharks of the USBL, where O’Connor was quickly elevated from laundry duty to assistant coach.
