The Mets are taking a flier on a depth arm that spent the last two years in the Rays and Yankees organizations.

The club on Tuesday acquired righty reliever Joey Gerber from the Rays for cash, a source confirmed. Gerber had been designated for assignment by the Rays on Monday as part of their 40-man roster cleanup.

The 28-year-old Gerber has made 19 appearances in the big leagues — 17 in 2020 with the Mariners and two with the Rays this season — posting a 3.60 ERA across 20 innings.

But he spent the majority of 2025 at the Rays’ Triple-A affiliate, recording a 6.23 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 43 ⅓ innings.

In 2024, he split time between the Yankees’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates after signing as a minor league free agent, spending part of his time with the organization rehabbing the Tommy John surgery that he underwent in mid-2022.

The Mets’ top lefty reliever will be back next season, as they announced they exercised Brooks Raley’s $4.75 million club option for 2026.

Raley missed the first half of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery but after coming back, pitched to a 2.45 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 25 ⅔ innings.

The Mets also declined their club option on reliever Drew Smith, who underwent Tommy John in July, while A.J. Minter and Frankie Montas exercised their player options for 2026.
