Paul Bamba, championship boxer managed by Ne-Yo, dead at 35

Boxer Paul Bamba died this week, just days after winning a WBA Cruiserweight title, his manager Ne-Yo said Friday.

He was 35.

The cause of death was not revealed.

The boxer won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title on Dec. 21 by forcing former super middleweight title contender Rogelio Medina Luna to retire on his stool after six rounds.

Bamba recently signed with Ne-Yo’s management company, becoming one of the first to align with the Grammy-winning singer.

Ne-Yo released a joint statement with Bamba’s family following the death.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” the statement read.

“He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual who inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.

“We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”

Bamba, who was the No. 12 ranked contender by the WBA, notably fought in 14 pro fights during the 2024 calendar year.

He had an accomplished pro career — finishing with a 19-3 record — that spanned just under four years.

After his latest win, Bamba had called out Jake Paul to “come get it.”

Paul shared his condolences on Friday, writing, “RIP Paul Bamba,” on X.
