Shedeur Sanders’ Browns fate revealed as roster cuts loom

It appears the Browns aren’t wavering from their four quarterback plan.

During Cleveland’s final preseason game against the Rams on Saturday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he expects Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders and Dillion Gabriel to all make the roster once the final 53-man group is set on Tuesday.

“Honestly, it’s not much of a decision for us. All four guys have done what we’ve asked,” Berry said. “… We have a room that we like all the guys in there. We don’t really see that as a problem. We more see it as an opportunity.”

Berry’s comments came amid another showcase for their quarterback room.

In the first half, Flacco threw for 91 yards on 9-for-10 passing with a touchdown.

Gabriel relieved Flacco after a few drives, putting up 129 passing yards and a touchdown.

Sanders was behind center for parts of the second half, and it didn’t go as well as his positional peers.

In five offensive possessions, Sanders went just 3-of-6 passing for 14 yards and fumbled, though the Browns recovered the ball.

Asked after the game whether he’d be on the Browns’ roster come Week 1, Sanders was as sure as it gets.

“Obviously,” he said when asked by a reporter if he feels like he belongs on the team.

Earlier this week, the 40-year-old veteran Flacco was named the Browns’ starter, but head coach Kevin Stefanski wasn’t quite ready to lay out the rest of his depth chart on Saturday.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about the decision of naming a backup to Joe Flacco.

“I’m just not there yet.”
