Brooklyn’s backcourt may be injury-riddled, but Spencer Dinwiddie showed it’s still in good hands.
The veteran guard led Brooklyn to an easy-looking 124-104 In-Season Tournament rout of Orlando in front of 17,361 at Barclays Center.
Dinwiddie (season-high 29 points, nine assists, five rebounds) lead a balanced attack that saw the Nets shoot .541 overall, 19-of-39 from behind the arc and put six scorers in double figures.
Forward Cam Johnson, who’d struggled in his first two games back from injury, looked sharp in this one with 20 points.
Without injured guards Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas, the Nets shot 13-of-17 in the fourth quarter to outscore Orlando 36-18.
Brooklyn led by 14 points in the first quarter, and – after taking their foot off the gas to fall behind late in the third – pulled away again to lead by as much as 19 in the final period.
Dinwiddie’s 3-pointer put the Nets ahead 116-97 with 3:16 to play, and the rest was garbage time.
The laugher moved the Nets to 6-5 overall, and 2-1 in East Group C.
The Celtics sit at 1-0.
