Tony Romo has made a few notable Taylor Swift-related errors on air this season, but the two shared a friendly moment on the field after the Chiefs clinched a trip to the Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas.
The Associated Press snapped a photo of Romo and Swift hugging and video captured by Yahoo Sports NFL reporter Jori Epstein showed the end of the interaction between the pop icon and CBS broadcaster.
The “Shake it Off” singer appeared to complement Romo on the job he does, according to the post by Epstein, and the former NFL QB complimented her back by saying she was even better.
“We’re doing very different things, aren’t we? It’s a different skill set,” Swift replied.
Romo appeared to say something back and then the two fist-bumped before the video ended.
The Grammy winner could be seen standing next to Donna Kelce, the mother of Chiefs star tight end and Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, in the video as she was talking with Romo.
The former Cowboys quarterback has incorrectly inferred that Swift and Kelce were married twice during CBS broadcasts, including last weekend when the Chiefs defeated the Bills in the AFC divisional round.
“There’s your brother-in-law, right behind you,” Romo said when the camera showed Swift in a box at Highmark Stadium with Kelce’s brother, Jason, standing behind the singer.
He had mistakenly referred to Swift as Kelce’s wife during a December broadcast of a Chiefs-Bills game before quickly correcting himself.
“You can see Kelce’s wife Taylor Swift in the audience,” Romo said. “I’m sorry, girlfriend.”
The gaffes didn’t seem to bother Swift at all as she smiled during the nine-second clip of her interaction with Romo
Romo of course knows a thing or two about whirlwind romances with a high-profile celebrity.
He dated Jessica Simpson for more than a year while he was playing for the Cowboys.
