The events to watch at the Paris Olympics on Monday, August 5

American track sensation Noah Lyles, looking to win his second career Olympic gold medal after taking the 100-meters in thrilling fashion on Sunday, will run at 1 p.m. during the first round of the men’s 200 meters.

Lyles, a 27-year-old Florida native with a flair for the dramatic, is attempting an ambitious 100-200 sprint double.

China’s Xie Zhenye, United States’ Noah Lyles and Germany’s Owen Ansah compete in the men’s 100m heat of the athletics event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, on August 3, 2024. AFP via Getty Images

The American women’s basketball 3×3 team seeks its second straight gold medal — in the event’s second Olympic tournament. They take on Spain in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. in hopes of reaching the 4 p.m. final against either Germany or Canada.

Event to watch: Sport Climbing

Think rock climbing during kids’ birthday parties, but turned up several notches.

Incorporating the categories of speed (pitting two climbers against each other on a 15-meter wall), bouldering (using no ropes, in fact) and lead (scaling as much of a wall as possible in six minutes), athletes mix their dexterity and quickness in exciting competition.

In the Olympics for a second time, there will be medalists based on combined results in bouldering and lead, plus a separate category for speed.
