Titans fans may not want Tennessee to win their final game of the season against the Jaguars and hurt their prospects of a good 2024 NFL Draft position, but Mike Vrabel doesn’t want to hear that.
The Titans head coach had a fiery response to a reporter’s question on Tuesday when discussing the final game of the season and why they needed to win “for a lot of reasons.”
“Because it sucks to lose, Gentry,” Vrabel responded to The Tennesseean’s Gentry Estes. “Did you have another thought? I’m just curious. It f–king sucks, losing. Awful. That’s why I want to win. Because you don’t sleep, you want to win for players that bust their tail. That’s it, it’s not about ‘Hey, we’ll go into the offseason with a good note.’
“Nobody knows what you did on Jan. 7 or 8 or 6 in April when you come back. But, you want to see it just all come together and just put four quarters together.”
Vrabel, 48, did apologize at the end for his crude language, which appeared to garner some chuckles from those in the room.
Considering how Tennessee’s season has gone, it’s easy to see why Vrabel is jonesing to get any wins that he can.
At 5-11, victories have been few and far between, and the Titans have dropped three straight — and four out of the last five — going into the season finale against Jacksonville.
The 2023 season will also mark the second consecutive season that the franchise has missed out on making the playoffs after finishing 7-10 last year.
But looking ahead at the future, the Titans are sitting in the seventh spot in the draft going into Week 18, according to Tankathon.
A loss — maybe to Vrabel’s chagrin — would help their odds of a better draft spot, which could go as high as the No. 4 position.
