Journeyman quarterback TJ Finley has committed to play next season at Incarnate Word, an FCS school in San Antonio, Texas, marking the seventh college football program that the Louisiana native will play for in his career.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Finley was headed to the school on Tuesday night.
Finley’s stops have included LSU, Auburn, Texas State, Western Kentucky, Tulane and Georgia State.
COVID-19 and a series of injuries have provided him with the opportunity to have so many additional years of eligibility, along with an off-the-field incident that cost him his chance to play at Tulane.
Finley, 23, played the 2025 season with Georgia State and finished with 1,244 passing yards and six touchdowns, while also throwing seven interceptions.
A shoulder injury limited him for part of the year.
His best collegiate season came while he was at Texas State in 2023, when he passed for 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also scored five rushing touchdowns.
Finley saw playing time as a true freshman at LSU in 2020 when starting QB Myles Brennan suffered an injury.
He appeared in nine games for Auburn in 2021 and four in 2022, before suffering an injury and redshirting the rest of the latter campaign.
He suffered a season-ending injury while playing for Western Kentucky in 2024, earning a medical redshirt for the remainder of the season.
Finley originally transferred to Tulane for the 2025 campaign, but never took the field for the Green Wave due to an indefinite suspension after an arrest for possession of stolen property valued over $25,000.
The arrest stemmed from the purchase of a Dodge Ram that had been reported as stolen. Finley was put into a diversion program after an appearance in court.
He transferred to Georgia State after the incident.
In an interview last month with NOLA.com, he said that he was planning to play for a seventh school because he “set a high standard of what I want to do and what I want to accomplish in my life.”
Finley, who is also a father of three, said he wants to show his kids that they should never give up.
“I think the gifts that God has given me, and the talent that God has given me in the football aspect, it would be a disservice to him to just give up, right?” Finley told the outlet. “And I think the number one lesson that I’mma always harp to my boys is no matter the situation, no matter the circumstances and all of that, you never give up, right?
“As long as the opportunity presents itself, and you have that opportunity, you never give up until someone makes you or your body literally can’t go anymore.”
