The Giants might have a Jaxson Dart problem on their hands.
Big Blue’s star rookie quarterback had another tough night at the office as the Patriots came out hitting hard during their 33-15 win, with Dart getting drilled on multiple plays, including one notable instance down the sideline when he refused to get out of bounds and took a hard blow.
Before the “Monday Night Football” game began, Cowboys legend Troy Aikman, who knows a thing or two about quarterbacking, said he’s worried about Dart.
The game surely didn’t do much to calm his nerves.
“When I watch him, and this is going back, he reminds me so much of Jim McMahon. The way in which he plays. He just rallies the team,” Aikman said.
“I’m worried about him … He just has to be able to protect himself a little better than he has…”
During the first quarter, Dart ran down the sidelines but didn’t quite run out of bounds and was blasted by Christian Elliss, resulting in a brawl.
Aikman again implored the Giants’ star quarterback to be more careful.
“I’ll tell you what, Joe, I know they are going at it, but it looked to me like it was a legal hit,” Aikman said while his co-host Joe Buck added that he agreed.
“It’s just Dart trying to get a little bit extra, and he has to protect himself. And he’s a target.”
Dart seemed pretty defiant postgame regarding the hits he’s taken this season.
“I understand the question, but this is football. I’m going to get hit if I’m in the pocket or outside the pocket. I’ve played this way my whole entire life,” Dart told reporters.
“It shouldn’t be any shocker to anybody if you’ve followed along with my career. We’re not playing soccer out here. You’re going to get hit, things happen. It’s just part of the game.”
Potential Giants head coaching candidate Jon Gruden also posted on X that Dart needs to get out of bounds.
“Please get out of bounds,” Gruden posted.
Dart has been in the blue tent four times this season and missed two weeks due to a concussion before returning for Monday’s game.
The Giants have a bye week ahead of their date with the Commanders at MetLife Stadium.
