Two Georgia football players, including star freshman, arrested weeks before CFP game

There are some distractions in Athens ahead of the College Football Playoff.

Georgia football starting freshman offensive lineman Dontrell Glover and running back Bo Walker were arrested Friday for shoplifting, according to reports.

The pair were arrested after 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday on misdemeanor charges of shoplifting, per WSBTV in Atlanta, and released before 8 p.m. on a $1,526 bond.

“We were informed of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” Georgia spokesman Steve Drummond told ESPN’s Dan Murphy.

“This is a pending legal matter and we will not have further comment at this time.”

It is not know yet whether these arrests will affect the pair’s status for the playoffs, with the third-seeded Bulldogs (12-1) facing on Jan. 1 the winner of the No. 6 Ole Miss vs. No. 11 Tulane matchup.

Any potential ramifications would affect the reigning SEC champions since Glover is the team’s starting right guard, having started the team’s last 11 games.

Walker, a native of Ellenwood, Ga., has appeared in six games as a reserve, rushing 22 times for 104 yards with three touchdowns.

He tallied all three rushing touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 35-3 win over Charlotte on Nov. 29.

Georgia has dealt with its fair share of legal situations in recent years under head coach Kirby Smart, including earlier this season.

Smart dismissed reserve offensive lineman Nyier Daniels after being arrested for allegedly driving more than 150 mph while attempting to evade Georgia police, according to ESPN.

“(I) have not had a chance to talk to him or his family, but obviously he will no longer be with us,” Smart said last month, per the outlet.

Georgia’s potential run to the CFP Championship game would feature a semifinal showdown against the winner of the quarterfinal bout between No. 2 Ohio State and either No. 7 Texas A&M or No. 10 Miami.

The Bulldogs have the third-best odds (+600) at FanDuel to win the national title.
