We keep hearing that they’re trying, as if that’s something to be lauded. We keep hearing that the effort is there and that’s swell. Surely that will make Steve Cohen feel better when he signs the last of the season’s checks in a couple of days.
You know who the Mets have become?
They’ve become the guy in your neighborhood who always borrows money and rarely remembers to pay it back, who always has one too many beers and winds up talking a little too loudly, who nobody much likes to spend any time with — but because we’re a glass-half-empty people we quickly add: “But he’s a very good father.”
As if you get extra credit for being a good father.
